Roger Ebert and Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is often criticized as the choice of the vain. While there is some truth in the criticism, cases like Roger Ebert show the merit of plastic surgery as a treatment.

Roger Ebert is a historically significant figure in the entertainment field. He was one of the first serious movie critics to bring reviews to audiences on television with the thumbs up or thumbs down reviews that often made or crushed movies. Alas, he has been off screen for a number of years as throat cancer took its toll on him.

The good news is Ebert survived the cancer. The bad news is his lower jaw had to be removed. This resulted in a face that looked more like a puppet than a human and an inability to speak. I don’t mean this harshly. I give him a ton of credit for not only beating the disease, but also being willing to come out and address the challenges he has faced.

The really good news is Ebert has found a major advancement in plastic surgery. Doctors were able to create a grafted lower jaw for him. The process took two full years to come to fruition. It is one amazing advancement. Not only does Ebert now have a lower jaw, but he can remove it as he feels fit to. Now that is an amazing device!

Roger Ebert will never look 100 percent like he did a few years ago, but then who of us ever will? His new lower jaw has given him the ability to get back part of his life and he appears to be taking advantage of it. He is even relaunching his movie review show this year, so make sure to catch episodes and support this brave man.

Is plastic surgery for the vain? Sure, but not always.
