Thread Face Lift
A relatively new and very popular plastic surgery procedure is the thread face lift. Here is an overview of the thread face lift and the results you can expect.
Thread Face Lift
One of the most popular forms of plastic surgery among all groups of people is the face lift. This procedure, which helps to create a more youthful appearance of your face, often requires a lengthy surgery and recovery period. Face lifts can also be expensive, costing upwards of $5,000 for the procedure when performed by top notch plastic surgeons. There are alternatives, however, to the traditional face lift, and one of these is the thread face lift that's being performed in select offices throughout the United States.
The thread face lift is considered a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure, as it does not involve cutting of the skin or other tissues on the face. Instead, Contour Threads are inserted into areas of the face that require tightening or defining. The threads are clear, and contain small barbs spaced evenly apart along the length of the thread. When this thread is pulled through the skin, they fan out in an umbrella-like way, which causes suspension of the tissues surrounding this thread. This suspension of tissues allows the areas to be lifted, and the pockets created by the small barbs create a place for new collagen bundles to grow. The new collagen cements the lifted effect of the threaded area, and allows the face to achieve a tighter, more youthful appearance.
A thread face lift is performed under local anesthesia, and generally takes about 45 minutes to one hour to perform. The recovery time is minimal compared to that of a traditional face lift, and patients can usually return to all of their normal activities within one week after having the procedure.
This sort of face lift is not for everyone. You should have good facial and skin tone for it to work. Further, the thread face lift is not a cure all for every issue. The threads will not correct severe drooping or wrinkles. If you are in need of extensive facial work, a traditional face lift may be a better option. Obviously, the decision is one to be made in consultation with your plastic surgeon.
If you would like to have a face lift but are afraid of the side effects of surgery and anesthesia, a thread face lift might be just the procedure for you. Not all plastic surgeons perform this type of face lift, so be sure to find a plastic surgeon that's experienced in this area before consenting to the technique. Also, be aware of the limitations of this type of face lift - it may not produce as dramatic a result as a traditional face lift would.
