Polypropylene Implants
Polypropylene implants are a form of implant for breast enhancement. In the case of polypropylene implants, we are talking massive enhancements. Very, very massive.
Polypropylene Implants
Breast augmentation has become one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery in the United States and the world. Many women are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts, and they seek to change this size by having breast implants placed in their chests. Since 1992, most women have been augmented with saline breast implants, as the Food and Drug Administration banned traditional silicone gel implants at that time. Now, there are other options for breast implants, such as cohesive silicone gel implants (currently in the testing phase) and polypropylene implants.
Polypropylene implants are also known as string breast implants. They employ a different method to enlarge the female breast. These implants were designed by Dr. Gerald W. Johnson as a method to enlarge the breast to gigantic, cartoonish sizes. Polypropylene implants consist of strings made of the polypropylene material. These strings constantly absorb water and other fluids inside the breast, which causes the implant to grow. As a result, women with string breast implants experience breast growth almost constantly and indefinitely. Women who have this implant are usually attempting to grow their breasts to extremely large sizes. Rumor has it they often work as adult entertainers.
One woman who has had success with her string breast implants is Chelsea Charms. An adult actress, she underwent the placement of polypropylene implants with rather amazing results. When last reported, her implants had grown to the point where each breast weighs 31 pounds. Her polypropylene implants have grown from a size of about 2500cc's to 7000cc's over the years. Despite this massive growth, she did not have the extremely rapid growth that can occur with this type of implant. They have also grown at the same rate, which is fortunate, because another side effect of this type of implant can be uneven growth.
Polypropylene implants are not currently approved for breast augmentation in the US. There have been on again, off again medical trials to study their use. Most of these trials were canceled a few years ago when things did not appear to be going well. Until a study is completed, it is hard to image the Food and Drug Administration allowing their use in the United States.
